DKT’s Results
DKT is a results-oriented organization and routinely tracks and shares our programmatic impact and financial results. Programmatic results are located below, and our independently audited financial statements and federal tax filings are available here. We also compile annual statistics of all contraceptive social marketing programs in the world.

A Note on CYPs
A commonly used family planning metric is the CYP, which stands for “Couple Years of Protection.” A CYP represents the amount of contraceptives one couple will use for a year to prevent pregnancy. A conversion table is included on this page. We heavily discount sales that are not made through social marketing, such as tender sales to governments and NGOs, to provide a conservative estimate of our impact.
How DKT Counts CYPs
There are different methods of calculating CYPs. DKT uses the following system, which accounts for wastage and loss. For long-acting reversible contraceptives such as implants and IUDs, DKT assigns CYP value based on the expected amount of time a woman will use that contraceptive before replacing it. Therefore, we multiply the number of units of each product sold by their respective converter to estimate CYPs.
Method | Converter |
IUD | x4.4 |
Implant (3 Year) | x2.5 |
Implant (4 Year) | x3.2 |
Implant (5 Year) | x3.8 |
Injections (3 months) | ÷4 |
Injections (2 months) | ÷6 |
Injections (1 month) | ÷12 |
Pills | ÷14 |
Emergency Contraception | ÷16 |
Female Condoms | ÷100 |
Male Condoms | ÷100 |
Free Male Condoms | ÷200 |
*Prior to December 2018, DKT CYP factors had the following differences: Female Condoms (÷20), 3-year Implant (x3), 4-year Implant (x4), 5-year Implant (x5).
