Postpil™ – One-Dose Emergency Contraceptive Pill

Postpil is an emergency contraceptive Pill designed to prevent pregnancy after sexual intercourse if a woman is concerned she could become pregnant. It can be used in the event of known or suspected contraceptive failure, such as condom breakage, missed contraceptive Pills or injections, or sexual assault. Postpil is not an abortion Pill, and taking the Pill does not terminate an established pregnancy.

Composition and Effectiveness

• Each tablet contains 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel.
• Most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex but remains effective for up to 72 hours (3 days).
• WHO Prequalified Emergency Contraceptive Pill.
• The pregnancy rate is between 1.2% and 2.1%, with higher effectiveness when taken earlier after unprotected intercourse.*

Mechanism of Action

• Primarily prevents or delays ovulation, reducing the chance of fertilization.
• Postpil™ does not induce abortion and has no effect on an existing pregnancy.

Side Effects

• Generally well tolerated, but some users may experience nausea, vomiting, irregular vaginal bleeding, or fatigue.

Contraindications

Postpil™ should not be used in cases of:

• Known or suspected pregnancy.
• Hypersensitivity to levonorgestrel.
