Understanding CYPs – A Key Family Planning Metric
A widely used measure in family planning is CYP (Couple Years of Protection), which estimates the amount of contraceptives needed to protect one couple from pregnancy for one year.
How DKT Calculates CYPs:
- For long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) like implants and IUDs, CYP values are based on the estimated duration of use before replacement.
- DKT multiplies the number of units sold by their respective conversion factors to estimate CYPs.
- To ensure accuracy, we heavily discount or exclude sales that are not part of social marketing efforts, such as large-scale government or NGO tenders.
