DKT Mekong’s spreading Love, Enhancing SRH/SH Knowledge for Women in Ha Mo Commune

On March 8, more than 200 women gathered at the Ha Mo Commune Hall (Dan Phuong District, Hanoi) for an informative session on reproductive and sexual health, organized by the Vietnam Family Planning Association in collaboration with DKT Mekong. The event aimed to raise awareness about proactive health management and equip women with essential knowledge for their well-being.

Empowering Women with Knowledge

In her opening remarks, Ms. Dinh Thi Ngan, Vice Chairperson of the Ha Mo Commune People’s Committee, emphasized the importance of reproductive and sexual health education in today’s society. She highlighted that empowering women with knowledge enables them to take better care of their health, ensuring both physical and mental well-being. This, in turn, fosters family happiness and contributes to the nation’s workforce development.

Ms. Dinh Thi Ngan – Vice Chairman of Ha Mo Commune People’s Committee spoke at the conference.

She also encouraged attendees to actively share the knowledge gained at the event with their communities, reinforcing the role of local advocates in spreading awareness about proactive healthcare and reproductive health management.

Expert Insights on Sexual Health and Family Planning

Dr. Mai Trung Son, Head of Communications at the Department of Population under the Ministry of Health, provided valuable insights into sexual health. He explained that sexual activity is a natural human need, fundamental to emotional and physical well-being. In marriage, a healthy sex life enhances intimacy, reduces stress, improves sleep, boosts self-confidence, and strengthens relationships.

However, Dr. Son also addressed the challenges surrounding discussions on sexual health, particularly the stigma that often prevents open conversations. A lack of proper knowledge can lead to unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortion practices, which pose serious health risks such as psychological distress, uterine infections, and in severe cases, fatal complications.

Dr. Nguyen Van Tam, a reproductive health specialist from Nasaco Corporation, emphasized that reproductive health is one of the most valuable aspects of a person’s well-being. He stressed the importance of family planning and highlighted the availability of modern contraceptive methods that offer up to 99.9% effectiveness when used correctly. DKT Mekong provides a range of high-quality contraceptive options, including condoms, daily oral contraceptives, and emergency contraception, to support individuals in making informed decisions about their reproductive health.

A Milestone for Local Collaboration

In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ba Nhat, President of the Vietnam Family Planning Association, noted the significance of this event, marking the first collaboration between DKT Mekong and the association at the commune level. He expressed his appreciation for the strong support from the local authorities and the enthusiastic participation of the community.

“The success of this event is truly encouraging. We hope that the knowledge shared today will empower women to take control of their reproductive health, improve their quality of life, and contribute to effective population policies in the region,” Dr. Nhat stated.

This initiative underscores DKT Mekong’s commitment to promoting reproductive health education and providing access to reliable contraceptive solutions. By fostering open discussions and equipping communities with essential knowledge, we continue to support individuals in making informed and confident choices about their well-being.
